2022 Action Forum

 Day 1: October 11, 2022 – Policy

Welcome & Opening Keynote

We are thrilled to have Academy Award-winning actress, producer, director, best-selling author, and true children’s advocate Goldie Hawn as our keynote speaker at this year’s End Social Isolation and Loneliness Action Forum! Working with leading neuroscientists, educators, psychologists, and researchers, the Goldie Hawn Foundation developed MindUP™ – an evidence-based curriculum and teaching model. With the tools provided by this program, children can self-regulate and understand their own emotions, moods, and behaviors; reduce stress and anxiety; sharpen concentration; increase empathy; and improve academic performance. Today, MindUP™ serves over six million children in 48 countries. We deeply admire Goldie and her Foundation’s efforts to promote an inclusive, resilient, and connected future!

Loneliness & Connection: Society, Culture, and Religion

This session explores how society, culture, and religion influence the social connectedness (and disconnection!) of our nation. Hearing from experts and thought leaders, we dive into these layers of the human experience and the influence on an individual’s likelihood to be socially isolated, feel lonely, or disconnected.

Federal Perspectives

This session focuses on sharing current and future policy and programmatic developments being considered by federal agencies to tackle the crisis of social isolation and loneliness plaguing millions of Americans.

NCQA: Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS)

The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) maintains the Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS), a comprehensive set of quality measures to assess health plan quality performance. In this session, NCQA presents how they seek to leverage HEDIS to advance health equity through the development of new measures focused on social factors which can contribute to poor health outcomes.

Global Outlook

This session explores global initiatives to address social isolation and loneliness, connection, and belonging, through partnerships and awareness. We hear from international thought leaders and experts on efforts being made by the World Health Organization and European Commission, learn about the recently debuted position statements formulated by the Global Initiative on Loneliness and Connection, and touch on international research efforts.

Making the Business Case

This session dives into a subsidiary of one of the nation’s largest healthcare insurers on the business decisions surrounding addressing social isolation and loneliness at a state Medicaid plan.

Hearing from the Hill

In this session, we hear from several U.S. Congressional Hill Champions and local officials who are paving the way for policies that promote a more socially connected nation. We hear thoughts on the policy outlook as it relates to ending social isolation and loneliness through the lens of U.S. and local legislative activity.
